Hola, hola. Pasando por aquí de nuevo porque desde hace varias semanitas que quería subir esto y no me había dado tiempo. Y es que hace no mucho recibí casi seguidos estos libros que me alegraron los respectivos días en que llegaron:
"El Pájaro de Siete Colores" y "El Cangrejito Picanarices" llegaron juntos, pues son del diseñador, ilustrador y escritor Diego López Narro, para quien tuve el gusto de hacer las ilustraciones del libro del cangrejito, el cual escribió y elaboró específicamente para sus hijos :). Y el Pájaro de Siete colores es su más reciete libro, Ilustrado por Fraga, con un estilo muy peculiar, simpático y expresivo.
El tercer libro se trata de "Puzzlehead", escrito e ilustrado por James Yang, el cual gané en un sorteo en illustrationmundo.com, ¡¡¡GANÉEEEEE Y MI PREMIO LLEGÓ....y está bien chido :D!!
Muy lindos libros... muy agradables sorpresas.

Hello, hellou. Just passing around here again because it's been a while since I wanted to upload this and hadn't had the time. Not too long ago, I got in the mail these books that cheered the respective day they arrived:
"El Pájaro de Siete Colores" and "El Cangrejito Picanarices" arrived together, cause they were sent by designer, illustrator and writer Diego López Narro, for whom I was glad to illustrate the "cangrejito" book, which he wrote specially for his children :). And "El Pájaro de Siete Colores", his most recent book, illustrated by Fraga, with a very peculiar, fun and expresive style.
The tird book is "Puzzlehead", written and illustrated by James Yang; I won this book at illustrationmundo.com, ¡¡¡YEEESS, I REALLY WON SOMETHING, MY PRICE ARRIVED... and it's SO cool :D!!

Situación de los ilustradores en México

Habla sobre cómo suele ser el trato a los ilustradores en México por parte de las Editoriales (no todas) y creo que es importante saberlo para tratar de hacer que las cosas sean más justas, porque también debemos intentar poner nuestro granito de arena.

Helloou, hoy por fin vengo a actualizar a esta pobre y abandonado blog. Hoy les traigo un proceso de más o menos cómo suelo trabajar cuando ilustro con acrílicos. Comenzamos...
Hellooo, today I finally come here to update this poor and abandoned blog. Today I bring you a process of how I use to work when illustrating with acrylics. Let's start...

#1 Boceto.
Siempre, siempre, siempre hago un boceto de lo que voy a hacer, a menos que sea algún ejercicio warro. Lo mejor es tener siempre un boceto donde pueda rayonear, enmarranar, tomar decisiones, etc... Aprovecho el boceto para hacer apuntes de lo que se me ocurra: que si voy a poner ciertos brillos, que si se me ocurre usar ciertos colores, etc.
#1 Sketch.
I always, always, always sketch first whatever I'm gonna do, except, probably, if I'm just doing a rough exercise. The best is to have a sketch where you can doodle, stain, take decisions, etc... I use the sketch to take notes of any idea: where I'm putting highlights, if I want to use certain colors, etc.
#2 Comenzando.
Ya que tengo el boceto, lo que suelo hacer es pasarlo con papel carbón al soporte sobre el cual voy a pintar; delineo para que no se me pierda el lápiz y claro, tengo el boceto de referencia ;) Entonces empiezo a meter algo de pintura. En mi caso, me gusta empezar del fondo hacia el frente, para que no se me vayan a perder los personajes. En esta ilustración comencé marcando ligeramente algo de sobra, porque quería que se viera oscura esa área, así que usé un color oscuro, en este caso, gris, pintando más fuerte donde habrá más sombra y más aguado donde hay menos (cuidado con meter mucha agua, porque puede hacer daño al papel).
#2 Starting.
Once I have the sketch, I use carbon paper to transfer the sketch to the paper I'm gonna use; then I mark the line, so it won't get lost and, of course, I keep the sketch as a reference ;) Then I start introducing slightly quantity of paint, In my case, I like to start painting from background to foreground, so the characters don't get lost. In this illustration I began pointing some shadowing slightly, because I wanted to darken that area, so I used a darker color, gray in this case, and painted stronger where the heavier shadows go, and softer as the shows decreased (be careful of using too much water, it might damage the paper).
#3 Pintando.
Ya una vez que se perdió el miedo no queda más que seguir pintando. En los siguientes pasos se puede ver a qué va el asunto: lo normal (para mÍ) es primero poner una base, algo suave, que va a servivir para orientarse, para ir delimitando y trabajar en base a una tonalidad; después se va trabajando en los detalles (ver las diferencias de los árboles y el follaje entre las imágenes). Es muy común comenzar a pintar las partes iluminadas y claras primero, lugo los medios todos y al final las sombras y partes más oscuras; yo suelo pintar con un tono medio de base, aplicado un poco rebajado con agua y encima voy trabajando con las luces, los medios y las sombras. También se pueden agregar brillos al final, por encima, con una capa gruesa de pintura... aahhhhh, las bondades del acrílico :)
#3 Painting.
Once we've lost the fear, there's nothing else to do but keep painting. In the next images you can see what it is about: the usual (for me) is to use a base color, something light, that's going to be useful to orientate, delimitate and work on base of a tone; then we can work on the details (see the differences of the trees and bushes between images). It is usual to start painting the highlight zones first, then the midtones, and the shadows at the end; I use to apply a middle tone base, with some water, and over that, I work with the highlights, midtones and shadows, adding more and more paint. Some shines and highlights can also be added at the end with a gentle quantity of paint... Oh, sweet acrylic

#3.2 Personajes.
Me gusta dejar los personajes para el final, siento que es más práctico, ¿qué no es lo común?

I like to leave character for the end, I feel it is more practical, ¿isn't it the common thing to do?


#4 Remates.
Ya que está todo pintado, hay qué ver si todo está en orden, si es necesario dar algunos detalles, una sombra por aquí, un brillito por allá... si se nos olvidó pintar algún área pequeña, etc. Yo lo que hago al final es delinear con lápiz, sí, también sombreo un poco con lápiz en algunos lados, me gusta mucho lo que aporta el lápiz en el acrílico!! El marco que delinea la imagen está con lápiz carboncillo, que es más fuerte; me agrada cómo va para ciertos detalles, pero para mí es muy fuerte como para contornear toda la imagen.
#4 Finishing touches.
Now everything is painted, is time to check everything's OK, if it needs some more details, a shadow here, a shining there... if we forgot to paint a small area, etc. What I do at the end is to mark the line with pencil, yeap, also shadow a bit with pencil, I love the pencil-acrylic team!! The board line is made with charcoal pencil, which is stronger; I like it how it looks for some details, but for me it is too strong for all the image, so just the border.

#5 Fin.
Ya que quedó la imagen, se le puede meter algún fijador (sobretodo para que no se vaya a correr el lápiz). Yo escaneo en alta resolución (300dpi, formato TIFF) y si es necesario se limpia en photoshop... a esta ilu yo le quité el contorno blanco del papel (que ya no se veía tan blanco...), limpié con cuidado las orillas de la imagen y el marco con borrador... que no se viera masticado y le dejé fondo blanco... y LISTO.
#5 End.
Once the image is done, you can add some varnish (specially to avoid pencil accidents). I scan on hi-res (300dpi, TIFF format) and clean in Photoshop if needed... on this illo, I cleared the white paper borders (which wasn't that white at the end), cleaned carefully the image edges with the eraser, and left the white background... and READY.
